Blender is a free and open source 3D creation suite that intends to serve as a complete access to 3D application e.g. 3D modeling, animation, compositing, rigging, and motion tracking; it has further broadened the scope to video editing and games. It is a very appropriate tool for individuals as well as small aspiring studios that can draw various benefits from its coalesced pipeline and receptive development methods.
It is a community powered software, so anyone can alter or modify its basic code which contributes to creation or inculcation of new features, riddance of bugs and malwares, and a better user friendly community.
Blender is multiple platform software and works seamlessly on all Linux, Windows or Mac based computers. A list of compatible programs and specifications is maintained and regularly tested by the developers.
It has a nice, user-friendly interface. The streamlined interface is packed with many powerful features and tools that can be availed with great ease as most of the frequently used tools are present right on the screen but it still leaves a great space for a comfortable and detailed viewing experience. Other tools can be availed with help of drop down menu.
Also there are plenty of help options and tutorials available for the beginners. Moreover, the interface runs seamlessly across all platforms and there are no distracting pop-up windows.
Keyboard Short cuts: Blender has incorporated numerous keyboard shortcuts that work immaculately, and this feature gives it a favorable tilt towards the people with good computer knowledge i.e. programmers or those with some engineering background.
Plethora of features and formats:
This is a feature studded software, such as Shading, Sculpting, fast UV Unwrapping, Game creation, Real time 3D, and then there are tools for 2D and 3D procedural brushes, collision simulations, etc. At the time of importing, it is a great relief that it supports most of the formats.
It is very time-consuming as far as getting accustomed to all its features is concerned. Even experienced users would not find it easy and comfortable to jump straight to the business end of this software, but once you put in the hard work that the software demands of you to learn its operations; you have access to a lot more than you could anticipate.

Pose brush: pose a model simulating an armature-like deformation. The pivot point for rotation is calculated automatically based on the radius of the brush and the topology of the model.
Translate, Rotate, Scale tools: transform around a pivot point, also taking into account symmetry.
Elastic Deform brush: grab, biscale grab, triscale grab, scale and twist operations that preserve volume. All deformation modes are accessible under the same tool. Based on the "Regularized Kelvinlets: Sculpting Brushes based on Fundamental Solutions of Elasticity" paper.
Draw Sharp brush: Similar to the draw brush, but it deforms the mesh from the original coordinates. When used with the sharper curve presets it has a much more pleasant crease/cut behavior than any of the other brushes. It is useful for creating cloth wrinkles, stylized hair or hard surface edges.
Mesh Filter tool: applies a deformation to all vertices in the mesh at the same time.
