ExifTool is a platform-independent Perl library and command line application for reading, writing and editing metadata for a variety of file types. ExifTool supports many different metadata formats, including EXIF, GPS, IPTC, XMP, JFIF, GeoTIFF, ICC, Photoshop IRB, FlashPix, AFCP, and ID3. This application also supports the formats of digital camera manufacturers Canon, Casio, Fujifilm, GE, HP, JVC / Victor, Kodak, Leaf, Minolta / Konica-Minolta, Nikon, Olympus / Epson, Panasonic / Leica, Pentax / Asahi, Reconyx, Ricoh, Samsung, Sanyo, Sigma / Foveon and Sony.
ExifTool is available for Linux, as a stand-alone Windows application or as a package for MAC OS X. For Windows versions, simply download and unpack the archive. The application is operated in two ways. The archive contains an "exiftool (-k) .exe" entry where you just drag and drop your file and the application will display information about that file. The second option is to rename the "exiftool (-k) .exe" entry to "exiftool.exe" and the application will run at the command line along with the documentation.
If you prefer the command line over the graphical interface, ExifTool is right for you.
