The light weight CD burner ImgBurn is a CD, DVD, BluRay, HD DVD burner application. It is a free to download application that can run under several functional modes like the Read, Build, Write, Verify and the Discovery.
Let us get a better understanding of these modes. In Read mode the burner reads a disc as an image file while in Build mode the burner will create an image file of the files to write on the disc. In Write mode the burner writes the image file to the disc and in Verify mode the burner checks the readability of the disc. Verifying the readability is extremely important as it indicates the burning quality. For verification the ImgBurn compare the actual data with the backed up one. In Discovery mode you can check the whole happening together without any issue.
To name a few of the image file formats that ImgBurn supports are bin, ccd, pdi, nrg, mdx, mds etc. Apart from the image file burning the tool can be used for audio CDs too, as it supports DirectShow, ACE, APE, FLAC, WMA, WAV, and OGG etc. Users can use the same tool for creating and burning three different types of video content for three different discs like Video_TS folder for the DVD video, HVDVD_TS for HD DVD and BDAV / BDMV for Blu-ray.
The ImgBurn supports Unicode character set and all the Windows OS’s from the Microsoft Corporation. It remains compatible with Linux’s Wine and other Unix’s on x86 base. The prime advantage of using the ImgBurn over other burners is it is simple tool that supports all the major drives without any need for adding an add-on or installing a plug-in. It works well for BenQ, Samsung, NEC, LG etc.
The ImgBurn generates the image queue system whenever you are to create multiple images. The intelligent tool also goes for layer break selection based screening for DVDs with double layers. Users can automate the writing speed after assigning media ID for each drive. Users find the feature highly helpful for them. While the software is in work in process mode, it will still display the basic information about the burning, writing and the DVD to the user.
