Most of the time, close management of the system resources of our computers isn’t that necessary. Typically, people use the inbuilt Windows task manager to shut down frozen processes. However, sometimes, the data provided by the task manager can be exceptionally useful.
The default task manager of Windows doesn’t have deep management capabilities. This is where Process Hacker can show what it is capable of. And it is not just mere tracking of system resources.
First of all, Process Hacker provides you with a detailed overview of system activity. From this standpoint, Process Hacker resembles the default task manager – it shows how much of the resources of the CPU and RAM each process takes.
Process Hacker also features graphs and logs, which can be very useful in discovering performance hiccups as well as in generally keeping an eye on the system resources.
A remarkable feature of Process Hacker is that it allows you to discover processes using any files. You have probably encountered files that you couldn’t remove no matter what. Apart from being annoying, such files could run some processes that pose a significant risk to the safety of your computer. Otherwise, you probably wouldn’t be able to discover suspicious activity on your computer without an antivirus.
Another nice feature of Process Hacker is that you can browse programs with active network connections and shut them down if necessary. Windows actually has the same functionality, but having all the features in one place is more convenient.
The same goes for disk management. While Process Hacker’s disk usage data is quite similar to the Disk Activity feature in Windows’ resource monitor, Process Hacker has more features. For example, for each process, you can open the file location. Quite useful if you discover some junk files slowing your hard disk down.
Process Hacker also has a number of advanced features. For instance, you can create, edit, and manage services all yourself to make your life a little bit easier.
All in all, Process Hacker is a good supplementary tool to monitor the condition of your computer with. It basically is Windows’ Task Manager and Resource Monitor combined. It is more enhanced as well. It also may help you with catching malware, but you probably shouldn’t rely on it fully in this regard and just use an antivirus.
