Speedy Painter is a free, light-weight, open-source painting application that supports Wacom technologies. Its main function is to record the painting or drawing process from start to finish, producing a smooth and sped-up playback of the entire drawing process. Speedy Painter is commonly used in popular speed paintings that can be found on video sharing websites like YouTube and on social media.
The application displays a minimal interface of gray. On the left, one can find all of the drawing tools like brushes, color picker, rotation tools, and undo-redo buttons. A color wheel is placed on the upper right corner, with a view of the layers underneath. The canvas, which can be resized, sits conveniently on the center of the screen. What makes Speedy Painter more efficient is its ability to create hotkeys for different actions.
Speedy Painter has a wide range of brushes in its brush library. All of the brushes can be adjusted in terms of opacity, hardness or pen pressure, orientation, and scatter settings, but these may vary according to the type of digitizer utilized. There is also an option to create your own brush strokes, as well as import brushes in PNG and ABR formats. The application was designed to work with a pen and tablet, but its support for the mouse works well, too.
Multiple layering is allowed on Speedy Painter, which is when sketches are layered on top of each other to create a better output, or to assist in the drawing process. With it, there are also different drawing options like perspective grid overlay and drawing with reference. Perspective grid overlay allows users to create grids, which is useful for architectural sketching. Drawing with reference gives users the option to place a side-by-side image of a picture that they wish to replicate. A mirror tool, in which half of the canvas is immediately filled by mirroring the strokes done on the other half, is useful for sketches of faces and mandala patterns.
One of the most exciting features of Speedy Painter is its instant playback, which compresses a two-hour painting session into two minutes of video. It captures the entire painting session, including brush strokes, zoom-ins and zoom-outs, and tool option changes. This makes it an ideal application for educational and entertainment purposes.

Layers list widget: added a button to merge current layer with the underlying one (in previous versions this functionality was accessible only via the [CTRL+E] keyboard shortcut).
